Short Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Taavi Lehto is a part-time lecturer in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
He received his master degree (in Pharmacy) at the University of Tartu (UT). He then completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering here at the UT with thesis entitled „Delivery of nucleic acids by cell-penetrating peptides: application in modulation of gene expression“.
He continued his scientific career abroad by having post-doctoral stints with a number of world renowned scientists in the field of drug delivery and RNA/oligonucleotide therapeutics, including Prof. Bernard Lebleu at the University of Montpellier (France), Prof. Ernst Wagner at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich (Germany), and, Assoc. Prof. Samir EL Andaloussi and Prof. Edvard Smith at the Karolinska Institutet (Sweden).
Currently he is a senior researcher and a group leader at the Institute of Technology at the UT. His research group is mainly focusing on the development of various drug delivery systems and targeting strategies for RNA-based therapeutics and their application in various genetic and other disease models.
